Aloha 'n Paradise sits on Hanapepe Road in the old town a short drive from Waimea, salmon-colored exterior, post office next door, art gallery in front and an espresso bar in the back. Owner Candy runs the bar herself, pulling lattes, cappuccinos, and americanos while fourteen local Kauai artists hang on the walls with originals, prints, and jewelry priced for actual humans. Couches and chairs slow the room down. Wifi is part of the deal, which is rare on this side of the island. The crowd is West Side Kauai locals, Hanapepe gallery walkers, and visitors who wandered down from the swinging bridge and stayed for a sandwich. The Raspberry Brie and Apple grilled cheese has its own following. Order the latte and a grilled cheese if you want the West Side afternoon that regulars actually keep.
