Five Watt Coffee

Five Watt Lyndale sits on Lyndale Avenue South in Minneapolis, halfway between Lake of the Isles and the Crosstown. Co-founders Lee Carter and Caleb Garn opened the shop in 2014 after years working together at Bull Run Coffee in the same building. Their idea was to train baristas the way bartenders train, with bitters and syrups treated as ingredients to balance, not ornaments. Fee Brothers, Dashfire, and Bittercube bitters share rack space with house-made syrups behind the bar. The Pollinator Latte is the signature, built around honey and citrus bitters. The Oat Milk Cortado is what regulars order without thinking. Espresso is dialed for clarity over punch. On winter mornings the steam from the bar fogs the windows and locals stamp snow off their boots. Order the Pollinator if you want to taste the bar program that built the reputation. Order the Oat Cortado if you take your coffee with milk and dairy is not the move.
