Maui Coffee Attic occupies a 1950s storefront on Kanoa Street in Wailuku town, opened in 2015 inside what was once the original Hokama family cafe. The bar, the stools, the cash register all date to that era and still work. The kitchen bakes Ube Haupia scones, lilikoi bars, bread pudding, and a rotating set of pastries built on local fruit. Breakfast and lunch run all day. Downstairs is a music room that hosts regulars from the Maui scene, and there is a guitar wall upstairs that gets pulled down for impromptu sets. Thursdays at 11 bring authentic Hawaiian steel guitar. Mornings here pull Wailuku regulars who treat the place like a family living room, musicians on coffee breaks, and visitors who came for one scone and stayed for the steel guitar. Order the Ube Haupia scone if you want what the Wailuku regulars order. Order an espresso and find a Thursday at 11 if you came for the music.
