Gumption Coffee occupies a small bar on West 45th Street in Midtown Manhattan, a block off Times Square but tucked enough to keep the room calm. The brand started as a small Australian cafe and exported its style to New York in late 2020 when co-owner Hazel de los Reyes opened the Midtown shop. De los Reyes is a decorated Australian barista and taster, and the bar's house blend, Go with Greatness, is built specifically to anchor flat whites and cappuccinos against the milk. Baristas are trained to match the recipes Australian cafes use back home. The room is small and fast. Espresso pulls dense and short.
