Porto Rico Importing Company on Bleecker Street in Greenwich Village has been one of New York's coffee mainstays since 1907, founded by Italian immigrant Patsy Albanese and moved across the street to 201 Bleecker in 1958. The Bleecker store still carries tin ceilings and old school ceiling fans from the early 1900s and roasts the company's most exotic beans on site in 24-pound or smaller batches. The catalog runs to over 130 coffees plus single-origin and blended teas, Italian syrups, and chocolate covered espresso beans by the pound. Order whole beans from one of the small-batch single origins if you came for the in-house roasting work.
