How to Make an Iced Latte at Home
An iced latte is espresso poured over ice and topped with cold milk. It is one of the simplest drinks in coffee and one of the most frequently overpaid for. A daily iced latte at a cafe costs $5 to $7. At home, it costs about $0.75.
The Method
Fill a tall glass with ice all the way up. Pull a double shot of espresso and pour it directly over the ice. Pour 6 to 8 ounces of cold milk over the top. Stir or leave layered. Both are correct.
Without an Espresso Machine
Moka pot output works as an espresso substitute. AeroPress brewed concentrated (18 grams coffee, 90 grams water) poured over ice is excellent. Cold brew concentrate over ice with milk is the fastest version. Oat milk is the best non-dairy option. Simple syrup dissolves better than granulated sugar in cold drinks.
Daily iced latte at a cafe: $5.50 average, $2,000/year. Daily at home: $0.75, $270/year. Savings of $1,730/year. That pays for a very good espresso machine or a lot of visits to specialty shops for the drinks that are actually worth paying a barista to make.
